The last two episodes puts an end to season 2. Overall, it was a nicely written story. It played out like a classic Disney movie. It had a few new songs in it, it had all the major characters and it also introduced new characters as well as if by magic. It was a surprise to find out that Twiight has a brother and that there is a third princess. It did show a bit of history in terms of Twilight's relationship with her brother and Cadence but both of these characters could have warranted a mention in earlier episodes. In season 1, there were earlier episodes which foretold what happened in later episodes such as the Grand Galloping Gala. Twilight's brother, Shining Armor is captain of the royal guard and Cadence is a princess. There's no reason why they shouldn't show up in earlier episodes. Ah well, I guess premiere and finale episodes are not meant to tie into the middle.
There are a few things left unexplained. It has been said before, but exactly who is princess Cadence related to? They didn't show any history on that part. Also, how did they know there's a threat to Equestria and how come nothing outside of that has ever been mentioned or explored? There are just things that just appears as if by magic into canon and we're supposed to accept it. Granted you could only fit so much in less than an hour but then again you had 20+ episodes before to explain and introduce things.
Finally, there are things that didn't sit right with me. Princess Celestia has yet to save anything. She's the freaking princess! Granted the Queen of the Changelings could have sapped her love juice and reversed it back to her but come on! She hasn't done anything awesome in the last two seasons?! "Twilight, you must get the elements of harmony!" When I heard those words, I went "NO NO NO! Stop depending on that!" I'm glad they didn't get to use it and I'm glad there are other ways to solve their problems. Princess Luna makes an appearance and spoke. Of course she had lines, Rarity was in it too. Rainbow did a sonic rainboom on cue again which I can only explain by rigorous training and not by some pony getting her wings melted off and falling to her doom. The others in the mane 6 was just being who they are. Basically, it was a long Twilight episode. She sang too which I'm happy to hear. Now, we rewatch all of season 2 over and over until season 3.
I'm not sure if Pinkie broke the fourth wall again this episode. Maybe a little at the end. This time a mystery kept us on the edge of our seats as Pinkie, well Twilight mostly, finds out who took a bite out of the delicious cake. There weren't anything obvious that allows us to predict the end of the episode and there weren't any real motives behind the guilty party taking a bite out of the cake except for uncontrollable urge for eating it. I felt that it's not in the culprits' character to do such a thing. No matter how silly the mystery was, it was required for Pinkie to learn the lesson of not jumping to conclusions. Other things to note are Mrs. Cake's expression at the beginning was funny, Pinkie's scenario of the bakers kept it interesting and I'm sure the fanbase will eat that up and the Princess acknowledges her love for baked goods.
